Britain’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced in 2026 that it will investigate Microsoft’s dominance in business software, examining whether the company’s practice of bundling its products is uncompetitive.
The probe will scrutinise how Microsoft packages products including Windows, Word, Excel, and Teams together, and whether this bundling harms competition. The investigation will also extend to Microsoft’s integration of AI into its products and its practices in the cloud market.
The CMA’s stated aim is to ensure that UK organisations benefit from choice, innovation, and competitive prices — suggesting the regulator has concerns that current market conditions may be limiting those outcomes for British businesses and consumers.
