OpenAI announced in 2026 the creation of a new business unit backed by more than four billion dollars, designed to help companies build and deploy artificial intelligence tools. The move marks a significant expansion of OpenAI’s commercial services aimed at corporate clients.
As part of the expansion, OpenAI is acquiring Tomoro, an AI consulting firm. The acquisition is intended to accelerate the growth of the new venture and broaden its service capabilities.
The unit will work directly with organizations by embedding AI engineers inside them to identify areas where artificial intelligence can have the greatest impact. This hands-on approach positions OpenAI as both a technology provider and an operational partner for businesses pursuing AI adoption.
The move suggests OpenAI is looking to deepen its presence in the enterprise market, where demand for practical AI implementation support may be outpacing what off-the-shelf software products can deliver on their own.
