US-based AI finance platform Numero has acquired Chennai-headquartered finance automation startup Royu in a cash-and-stock deal announced in May 2026. Royu cofounder Viswajith Vishwaa described it as a “double digit million deal,” noting the valuation was significant given the startup is less than a year old.
Founded in 2025 by Vishwaa and Gunasekaran Sathyanarayanan, Royu builds AI accounting agents for finance teams, automating workflows including bookkeeping, invoice processing, reconciliations, month-end closing, and financial reviews. As part of the acquisition, both cofounders will join Numero’s leadership team — Vishwaa as cofounder and chief product officer, and Sathyanarayanan as chief technology officer.
The combined company plans to position itself as an “agentic AI worker layer” for CFO offices, deploying AI agents alongside finance teams and enterprise software systems. Longer-term, the consolidated entity aims to expand AI workers across finance functions including order-to-cash, revenue management, and financial planning. The company primarily serves US mid-market and enterprise customers, with engineering and product teams based in India. Current customers include Medallia, Doximity, and Intact, along with accounting advisory firms Connor Group and Uniqus.
Vishwaa distinguished Numero from legacy platforms attempting to add agents onto existing software, stating the company is “AI native” and can build quickly. He also noted that Numero’s AI agents are designed to work across multiple enterprise platforms rather than within a single ecosystem. On the question of competition from foundational AI firms such as Anthropic or OpenAI, Vishwaa said Numero operates in the “applied AI” layer, where deep workflow understanding and integration into existing enterprise systems are required.
The deal reflects broader momentum in AI-driven finance automation. The enterprise AI market is projected to reach $71 billion by 2030, according to figures cited in the source, as companies across sectors look to automate processes and workflows.
