Meta Platforms is launching a new Incognito Chat feature for its AI assistant on WhatsApp, giving users a way to hold private conversations that are not saved or monitored.
The feature was announced in 2026 and is designed to address user privacy concerns around AI interactions. Under Incognito Chat, messages will disappear by default, and conversations with Meta AI will remain private.
Meta says the move is intended to allow users to explore ideas without their data being tracked or stored. In addition to the standalone Incognito Chat mode, Meta AI will also offer private assistance within any existing WhatsApp chat, a capability the company says is coming soon.
For WhatsApp’s large user base, this could mean a more discreet way to interact with AI tools — particularly for users who have been cautious about sharing sensitive or personal queries with an AI assistant tied to a major platform. The default disappearing-message behavior may also lower the barrier for users who want to experiment with AI without leaving a data trail.
