Alphabet’s Google and Apple are integrating generative AI tools into their core apps, enhancing consumer experiences with music creation. This move signifies a significant advancement in the widespread adoption of advanced AI in everyday applications.
Google’s Gemini AI assistant now features AI music creation capabilities, allowing users to generate 30-second music tracks through text prompts or uploaded media. Powered by Google DeepMind’s Lyria 3 model, users can create instrumental pieces or songs with custom lyrics. The desktop version of Gemini already supports this feature, with mobile integration expected soon. Users over 18 will have access in multiple languages.
Furthermore, Google’s Nano Banana image model automatically designs cover art for each track, complementing the user-generated content. This development intensifies competition in the consumer AI space.
To manage usage and monetization, Google implements usage limits similar to image generation. Free users can create up to 10 tracks daily, while paid subscribers can generate between 20 and 100 tracks based on their subscription tier. Google assures users retain rights to their AI-generated music and enforces filters to prevent copyright or privacy violations.
Apple joins the AI music trend with Playlist Playground on Apple Music, enabling users to craft playlists using AI tools.
