The first breach, originating from IDMerit’s AI-powered Know Your Customer (KYC) tool, has compromised a staggering 1 billion personal records. IDMerit, a digital identity verification provider for the fintech and financial services industry, secured the exposed database upon notification, although the potential risks remain high. The leaked data, including names, addresses, national IDs, and contact details, poses threats such as identity theft, phishing attacks, and credit fraud.
The second breach, associated with the Video AI Art Generator app, has exposed 8.27 million media files due to misconfigured cloud storage. This Android app, with over 500,000 downloads, inadvertently leaked a substantial volume of private media content, highlighting the importance of robust cloud security measures.
