Google DeepMind has taken a stake in the studio behind EVE Online as part of a partnership aimed at training advanced AI tools using the game’s complex simulation environment, announced in 2026.
The collaboration involves researchers testing AI models within a safe, offline version of EVE Online. The game’s intricate simulation is intended to serve as a controlled environment for developing and evaluating AI systems.
The studio involved in the deal, formerly known as CCP Games, has rebranded as Fenris Creations. The partnership with Google DeepMind also marks a return to independence for the company.
The move suggests that complex video game environments may offer a practical setting for AI research, allowing models to be tested in contained, offline conditions before broader application.
